RINASCENTE LOVES DESIGN
events

RINASCENTE LOVES DESIGN Design is staged in Rinascente

Every year, during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile and Miart, Rinascente becomes a stronger than ever showcase and amplifier of creativity. Chosen by the best brands to launch their new collections and by designers to present their visions, with poetical installations, engaging displays and innovative projects, Rinascente promotes an event that sets trends, reworks styles from the past and launches new ones.

Special attention is always given to art, through the commissioning of cultural projects by international artists. This year sees the Georgian Vajiko Chachkhiani, selected to represent his home country at the 2017 Biennale in Venice. He has created two site-specific projects: Under the Midday Sun and Cotton Candy. The first is an installation with big visual impact that completely transforms the 8 store windows in Piazza Duomo. The second is a film with an intimist mood that will be projected on the annex wall in Via Santa Radegonda. Watch the trailer

But Rinascente is not only hosting established artists, it is also extending its attention to the design names of tomorrow, as only real patrons do with emerging talents. Once again this year, making it the sixth in a row, Rinascente is renewing its partnership with SaloneSatellite/FederlegnoArredo Eventi so that the candidates promoted by the SaloneSatellite 2018, out of the 650 taking part, can exhibit and sell their products in the Design Supermarket. The theme for this year’s edition is “Africa/Latin America: Rising Design – Design Emergente” with the Southern Hemisphere firmly in the spotlight: Africa and Latin America, two huge reservoirs of creativity and design. We are therefore getting ready for highly inspired projects.

This is therefore the birth of an eclectic, engaging event that makes this Milanese flagship store a must-visit for all lovers of design looking for new points of view on the most contemporary forms of art.

UNDER THE MIDDAY SUN | WINDOWS PROJECT

UNDER THE MIDDAY SUN | WINDOWS PROJECT

This project redesigns the windows overlooking Piazza Duomo and invites passers-by to enter a universe where nature transforms every single element. Nothing stays the same under its whirlwind effect.
The installations are expressed through 8 prototypes, which represent the unfinished sculptures of three subjects: an individual picking cotton, with rippling muscles and a tiger, surrounded by dry bushes, trees and, above all, by the wind. It is the wind that physically alters the sculptures with the passing of time, it is the wind that will cause them to disappear.
This gradual disappearance metaphorically recalls the sacrifice of the physical labour, because cotton pickers are paid very little. Today as in the past. The double nature, historic and contemporary, of this project is very well represented by the very quality of the sculptures: one part is reconstruction of historical pieces, the other is modern pieces.
A surprising, radical project that embodies the way shapes are conditioned by Nature. And by Life.

EDITIONS MILANO
Triangles by david/nicolas

 New Collection & Product Launch

Vases lend character to any setting. These have been conceived to look like crowns, fragile yet majestic, serious and yet somehow playful.
The Triangles (Triangoli) series is handmade in Italy and produced in four different qualities of marble: Verde Guatemala, Rosso Levanto, Arabescato and Black&Gold. Each vase is unique, like the marble it is made from.

Founded in 2016, Editions Milano “edits” and produces top-of-the-range furnishing accessories and articles. It debuted with Credenza, the limited edition in stained glass designed by Patricia Urquiola and Federico Pepe, followed by collaboration with hugely talented designers such as Cristina Celestino, Pietro Russo, david/nicolas, Chiara Andreatti and Germans Ermics.
Editing for this brand means evolving the material and immaterial image of its city: Milan. But it also means celebrating Italy: the biggest producer in the world of creativity, art and beauty. Its articles are not just “Made in the Great Italy”, they recuperate ancient arts and techniques, and collide them with the most innovative designers and projects.
